Recording and Streaming in Classrooms
Updated: Sept 16th, 2024
UBC IT Audio Visual has temporarily equipped approximately 160 General Teaching Spaces (GTS) with dedicated recording and streaming capacity (otherwise known as "Media Capture" or "Lecture Capture"). This has resulted in 70% of GTS classrooms of 30 seats and above having the ability to record and stream. When searching for a classroom on Find a Space, this functionality will be identified as “Media Capture” (as opposed to “Lecture Capture”) under the amenities menu. Classrooms with built-in or temporary add-on recording and streaming capabilities are configured using the Panopto video platform. This is not a live, 2-way interactive platform.
Existing lectern PCs have been leveraged and augmented with recording peripherals (cameras, mics, etc.) and software to provide schedulable recording/streaming capacity. Recording and streaming capabilities varies from room-to-room (e.g. ability to capture inputs such as document cameras). Documentation and demonstrations are available below.
