Renovation projects are chosen based on factors such as general campus-wide needs, the age and condition of the space, pedagogical requirements, compatibility with other projects, and the availability of resources. UBC Life Building 2201 (Old SUB Building Renewal)
The UBC Life Building (previously named the Student Union Building or Old SUB), located at the geographic heart of the campus, has been re-purposed now that the AMS has moved into the UBC Student Nest.

In 2017, UBC’s Learning Spaces Team in consultation with the academic community undertook a project that would see the transformation of an iconic traditional lecture theatre, Hennings 200, into UBC’s first collaborative lecture theatre.
